The founder of our company, Siegfried Schertler, died on Wednesday 28th July at the age of 84.

Siegfried Schertler founded the VAT company, from which later also arose the Comvat AG, in 1964. He was one of the outstanding pioneers of vacuum technology. Right from the beginning of his career as a designer, he contributed numerous innovations to the technology of vacuum valves.

As a businessman, his principle “cobbler, stick to your last” turned out to be the right one, also his careful use of company resources, and his focus on the health of the company as the most important element for a secure future.

An unfailing optimist, he always remained loyal to his staff, and he himself lived a very modest life.

Even though he had not been involved in the running of the company for many years, he followed the ongoing development of VAT with great enjoyment and interest until the time of his death.

With him we lose not just a father-figure, but a man with the kind of personal qualities that one could only wish for in the leader of a company.

We will carry on his legacy now as he would have wished, full of respect for his memory.
